Sponsor a House for an IDP Family

Sponsor an IDP House Project is an initiative of VICDA which targets Internally Displaced Persons rendered homeless by the violence that rocked the country after the highly disputed December 2007 elections. Though there are many IDP settlements in the country, we have identified and formed a partnership with 1000 dispaced families and have been working to make a positive impact in their lives.

40 IDPs families have benefited with houses;

In 2008, the government gave US$130 to each household of IDPs to facilitate their resettlement and transport costs back to their original homes, an exercise that was in futility since most had their homes razed to the ground and the security situation had not improved. On receiving this money, this group of IDPs decided to pool their resources together and boughht a piece of land on which they would settle.They acquired a 16 Acre piece of land located in Nakuru Pipeline area and have divided this piece of land into individual plots 20x20 Sq Ft, just enough to build a reasonable and habitable two roomed house. The cost of building each house has been reliably calculated to be USD 630.

You can support them by donating this amount for one complete house or giving any amount between USD 20 to USD 1000. This is a one-time donation and you can contact us for the follow up of how your donation have been spent.

You can donate from as low as $20.
